Facilitation

Let’s make things interesting.

Great facilitation hijacks your attention and won’t let it go.

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of teaching algebra to kids from Halifax, you’ll understand the importance of keeping things interesting.

I’ve facilitated learning in classrooms, lecture theatres, conference halls and board rooms. It doesn’t matter who the audience is, grabbing and holding attention is key.

Twenty years of studying and applying learning theory has given me a huge box of tools to dip into and a deep understanding of how to engage with a spectrum of learning styles. If you learn best through seeing, there will be imagery. If you need to do, you’ll get the chance to do. Often, there is music.

Using stories to communicate complex ideas has been a part of my method since I realised early in my career that humans of all ages only engage if they can feel a connection to the purpose; we are, after all, hard wired to do things we want to do rather than things we’re told to do. Tell the story, create the connection.

In an age of ever shortening attention spans, there’s no time to be boring.
